Kaffa Espresso Bar, Green Hall

Located at the Green Hall Road (just opposite SEGI College, Penang) or somewhere around Dewan Sri Pinang Hall, there is a newly opened Espresso Bar - specializing in serving freshly brew coffee. Since the official opening back in 23rd August 2013, Kaffa Espresso Bar has already been a favorite place for coffee lovers and a place for gathering among friends. Special credit the relaxed ambiance, it is one of the best places got gathering among friends.

Good Coffee Here by Kaffa Espresso Bar

Good Coffee Here. Yes, I agree. But, something to clarify. There is a Kaffa Restaurant in the town too which is serving mainly on Western Food, so do not get confused over that Kaffa and this Kaffa Espresso Bar.

The Beatles is rocking in the coffee bar

Once you are in the Kaffa Espresson Bar, you will be greeted by a gigantic 'The Beatles' mural painting at the main hall of the cafe. Mural paintings have been very popular among Penangnites since the past one year and I bet most of the cafes are now having such to be part of the trendy line towards Penang.

Marilyn Monroe rocking behind of the cafe

Preparing Salted Caramel Machiato

He is one of the friendly staff over there. Unfortunately, I forget to get to know his name. Too bad but you will definitely see him there busy preparing each cup of coffee especially Salted Caramel Machiato. He loves recommending the top seller Salted Caramel Machiato which made us ordered that too that evening.

Rooftop Espresso Bar

Kaffa Espresso Bar provides rooftop bar for those prefer non-air conditioned seating space. Perfect for the couples who loves seeing stars on the clear dark sky while sipping their warm coffee.

Downstairs Area

The weather was hot the other day, so as usual, I opt for the downstairs area - air-conditioned area. No worry for the space around, they have plenty of tables and seating.

The Making of 'Salted Caramel Machiato'

Salted Caramel Machiato and Hot Chocolate

Do not expect so much on the hot chocolate. But, it's definitely a not bad type for a chocolate. I like it personally because it is not too sweet. I am not so into coffee, but, it is a mix between the bitter and slight sweetness in it. Plus, the texture of the coffee is smooth, so good recommendation for that.

Fooyo Fresh Fruity Dessert, Prangin Mall

We have this something quite special compared to the normal ice cream yogurt found commonly in Penang - fry ice yogurt. There is a newly opened booth back in 31st May, 2013, in Ground Floor of Prangin Mall selling for its signature fry fresh fruity ice yogurt - from choosing the fresh fruits till frying its ice yogurt is all made upon order.

Review

Environment - 7/10
Not a cafe. A booth with seats around and only suitable for a short ice cream break
Food - 8/10
Thumbs up for fry ice yogurt but average to their waffle - not my liking because the waffle is too thick
Service - 7/10
Acceptable
Price - 8/10
Affordable. Fry ice yogurt costs at RM8.90 with reasonable serving
Location - 10/10
Located in Prangin Mall. Easily located and of course with plenty of car parks

Fooyo Fresh Fruity Dessert

Booth patronizing by many fry ice yogurt fans - I am one of them. Also, one thing in common - we all go for its fry ice yogurt - fresh fruity dessert.
Waiting for their Fry Ice Yogurt

That is how they make the Fry Ice Yogurt. First, select the fruits - dragon fruit. Then, chop & mix with the yogurt. Spread the mixture wide on the pan - it's cool and scrap it slice by slice and ready to be served. Looks simple but, if you witness the whole process, the guys who chop it must really have good stamina - not an easy job for whole day long.
How to Make Fry Ice Yogurt?

Fry Ice Yogurt - Dragon Fruit - taste perfectly with some mixture of sweet and sour taste. Cheers you up when you have a downy day.
Fry Ice Yogurt - Dragon Fruit

Fry Ice Yogurt - Vanilla - taste all sweet and perfectly suitable for those who prefers only sweet taste.

It could be better if the waffle is not so thick. Overall, it tastes OK!

Miam Miam Cafe, Gurney Paragon

Finally, I made my visit to this French mix Japanese cafe serving from their famous savory souffle till pasta, located at the St. Jo in Gurney Paragon. Miam Miam is named after the French expression of 'Yum Yum' which means yummy or taste deliciously.

Review

Environment - 9/10
Be it Al fresco dinning or air-conditioned, they have it all
Food - 9/10
Love their souffle, matcha latte but it would be even better if they can reduce their sweetness in the souffle
Service - 9/10
Service was quick despite peak hours
Price - 6/10
Price is slightly higher. One vanilla souffle for about RM16.80 and pasta at about RM20++
Location - 10/10
Located in Gurney Paragon. Easily located and of course with plenty of car parks

Main Entrance to Miam Miam Cafe

The design of this cafe is simple and is divided into two sections, air-conditioned dining and Al fresco area. This Al fresco area is connected to the main hall of Gurney Paragon where you will actually be viewing the Victoria Secret shop. Be there early to avoid long queue especially during the peak hours lunch and dinner time.

Give the credit to the menu. I personally like the menu much. The food in the menu is well illustrated and you will know the exact picture of what you have ordered. Thumbs up!
Miam Miam Cafe's Menu

Let's kick off with our first tempting drinks, Iced Matcha Latte with Softee. Whether you like green tea or not, you will be sure to like this. This is one of the items that you must try when you come over to Miam Miam Cafe! The smooth green tea latte with a very soft green tea ice cream made a perfect combination for the start.
Iced Matcha Latte with Softee

Here comes the main highlight of the food, Vanilla Souffle. Also, one of the main reasons why I wanted so much to come over to Miam Miam Cafe. Although the serving is not big, but this is enough for ONE person portion and be sure to eat it up while it is still warm. The souffle is so fluffy that every mouth would melts in your mouth once you taken them. But, it will be even better if they can reduce a little sweetness in it.
Vanilla Souffle

Many say that one should not missed their French Toast, but, to me, this is not a must have at Miam Miam Cafe. However, if you are a French Toast lover, why not give a try here in Miam Miam Cafe. The French Toast, definitely comes with bread, made a pleasant serving with well-toast bread served along a scoop of cream.
French Toast

And finally, here comes the Macha Ogura Pancake with Matcha Softee. Obviously, it's again green tea flavor, but, you will never feel bored in Miam Miam over green tea, because the Matcha Softee is again, so smooth to melt in your mouth. This is the pancake, yet another fluffy pancake, top with red beans and green tea ice cream.
Matcha Ogura Pancake with Matcha Softee

Overall, I would say Miam Miam Cafe is definitely a place that everyone should go especially for dessert for now, although the prices are slightly high. But, I will definitely return for more on their savory pasta and pot-baked souffle in the near future!

Mochatto, Penang

Recently, burgers has been the hot eatery topic in Penang. Wherever you go around in Penang or mouth-to-mouth advertisement, you will find lots of cafe specialized in selling homemade burger patty. Well, Mochatto Cafe, is one of the cafe following the current trend. Mochatto Cafe serves homemade patty burger, dressed it with variety of different sauces chosen and finally serves it hot to the customer.

Review

Environment - 8/10
Air-conditioned cafe and ample of tables for you to dine-in
Food - 5/10
Burger patty is not so juicy as expected and it is rough inside and you can feel the minced meat in the patty. On sauce side, no special homemade sauce. All sauces are common like mustard, ketchup and etc.
Service - 7/10
Above average. Except that it's a bit slow when waiting for the burger to be served although is not full with customers
Price - 7/10
One full set (burgers + snacks + drink) at about RM10.90.
Location - 8/10
Easily located and ample parking space

Mochatto Cafe

There will be a mini bar where all the drinks will be prepared there. This cafe is based on order and pay at the counter, then, food will be served to your table.

Here comes the refreshing drinks while waiting for our main course. Lychee flavour suits me more - taste like original sweet lychee. Hawaiian is far too sour to me. And, yes, I mean it - real sour.
Ice Blended Lychee and Hawaiian

A set of Mochatto Piglet Burger is served along with nicely fried french fries. You will find a slice of bacon, cheese, vegetables accompany along the piglet burger patty. Although, the patty is a little dry, but it doesn't taste too bad overall.
Mochatto Piglet Burger

Mochatto Chicken Burger is almost the same as Piglet Burger. Instead of pork, it is chicken. Although, the patty is different, but, the patty is still a little dry. You will still find a slice of bacon, vegetables and cheese stuffed between the chicken patty.

Red Garden, Penang

Located near at the one of the most happening place in Penang, Upper Penang Road, where lots of pubs & bistros will be there down the road. Red Garden is one of the famous food court you could find there - Korean, Western, Asian, Thai & even Indian cuisine will be there too. What made the food court so famous in Penang, because eatery like us, will be entertained with songs performed on stage where you can't find it in most food court in Penang.

Review:

Environment - 6/10
Personally doesn't like much on the environment there. Too noisy for you to hang out there or even eat, unless you are there to enjoy the stage song there
Food5/10
Just average except for few stall highlighted in the below post. Prefer outside food stall in Penang
Service 6/10
Most of the stalls can provide above average service, but, except one stall - fried rice stall.
Showing bad attitude when we reminded her after a long time.
Price - 6/10
Expensive for a common food outside. A herbal drink costs RM2.00 per glass where you can find it RM1.00 outside. Hokkien Mee (Prawn Mee) costs around RM5.00 where you can find it about RM3.50.
Location - 6/10
Easily located with ample parking space but the parking is very expensive. Unfortunately, I can't remember the rate, but will try to avoid parking there if going again to this food court.
If not mistaken about RM2.50 per hour after 5pm.

Welcome to Red Garden Food Court
Hawker Stalls

We reached the food court very early, around 6.00pm - no surprise to see only us in the food court because they just open the food court. Usually this food court will be packed by visitors by 8.00pm and by late night, there will be stage singers. I would suggest this place best recommended for tourist because you can easily find lots of local food there too.
Mini Stage to Perform Some Songs

Most expensive drinks ever had so far in Penang food court. RM2.00 for just a herbal drink where you can easily get it about RM1.00 outside. Next time I would prefer to order fresh fruit juice which costs only RM3.00. Although slightly more expensive, but at least you can taste the real fruit juice.
Drinks

I like this Fried Bee Tai Bak. Not too oily and comes along with egg & fresh prawns. Acceptable with a price of RM5.00 per plate for a fried food.

Fried Bee Tai Bak

Fried Maggie

Say 'No' to this. No taste of prawn soup and it costs around RM5.00 for this bowl. Also, default size when you place your order without requesting 'small' will be 'big'.
Hokkien Mee (Prawn Mee)

Good food by Filipino Hawker stall. Juicy pork goes along well with sweet, a little spicy sauce and accompanied by spaghetti. Reasonable portion with reasonable price.
Spaghetti with Pork by Filipino Cuisine

Thai Kerabu Fried Rice

Grill Stingray Fish

Although I didn't order this, but, this is a must or default choice for a friend of mine who dine in Red Garden Food Court. Food by Western Corner, Grill Fish with Cheese is a must for a western food lover. Thumb up and reasonable price at about RM12.90 per plate with mushroom soup.
Grill Fish with Cheese

Mushroom Soup (A set with Grill Fish with Cheese)

For Thai food lover especially those who loves pork leg rice, I guess this is not the right choice that you guys should go for. Pork leg is too dry with very little gravy around especially when the pork itself is not juicy and succulent enough. Only taste average.

Moustache Houze, Campbell Street

Located at one of the roads that surrounded by heritage buildings, Campbell Street, you will see this newly opened cafe, Moustache Cafe. This cafe is now catching the heart of Penangnites's interest to patronize this cafe for a place for coffee and chit chat.

Review:

Environment - 10/10
Plenty of tables - they even have few private rooms but with minimum spending of
RM80.00 - pretty good especially for a bunch of friends
Drink - 7/10
No food. Only cakes and drinks. Average on coffee - nice but just common
Service - 9/10
Price - 7/10
Average price - A cup of Mocha at about RM11.90
Location - 8/10
Easily located at the end of the road of Campbell Street and you will find ample parking   space because all the neighboring shops will be closed by evening

Moustache Houze

They are still hiring. Get them contacted if you want to be part of them!

Stepping in to the Moustache Houze, you will see the whole long pathway of cafe at a glance. At this moment, your mind will only be "which corner should I snap first?". Simple renovation for a simple cafe for you to hang out with your friends.

Just beside the entrance, on your left, you will see a mural painting with a sense of touched feeling that bring you back to the olden days, of childhood time.

Childhood Days

Wooden Hanging Bench & Creative Book Racks using Pipe

Up in the second floor is where you will see few private rooms specially for group of friends but with the minimum spending of RM80.00. Each room is painted with creativesarts with the theme of moustache.

Moustache Tree (painted in one of the room)

Here comes the cake's section. You will only find cakes in this cafe. No spaghetti, no waffle, but only cakes for food. Be sure to feed yourself some food before coming in to this cafe.

Carrot Cake, Mille Crepe Cake & many more

The signature drink for this cafe is flavored ice cube drink. Unlike our normal ice cube where it is just purely plain water and get it frozen to become ice cube. But, these ice cube comes with different variety of flavors like kiwi, chocolate and even espresso.
Kiwi Ice Cube (Soda)
Espresso Ice Cube

Espresso Ice Cube (Mixed)

You still have a choice if you are not a coffee or chocolate lover. You can still find some fresh fruit juice over here.
Carrot Milk

Ice Cappucino

That's my favorite Ice Cube Chocolate. Taste differently compared to Coffee Bean / Starbucks. Not to say their chocolate is not nice, but this gives a unique taste. Milk is not too thick, also, is not too sweet too. Unfortunately, the chocolate taste is not so thick. I wish they will increase the chocolate flavor to be a little stronger and that shall make the tricks.
